International Year One (UTP Stage II): Science (Computer Science) Course Selection
Note: Students in mixed entry should scroll down to the bottom section to see the recommended first term courses for their program.
Students in International Year One (UTP Stage II): Science who plan to study Computer Science should enrol in the following courses in their first term:
- ILS (non-credit, no fee)
- COMP 1000 Introductory Programming: Think Like a Computer
- Three recommended or required International Year One (UTP Stage II) courses from the following list below:
- MATH 1300 Vector Geometry & Linear Algebra
- MATH 1500 Introduction to Calculus
- Two elective courses:
- Faculty of Arts Elective
- Any other elective course
COMP 1000 is a prerequisite for COMP1010 and COMP1012.
You must review the International Year One (UTP Stage II) Program Planning Guide and UM First Year Planning Guide.
Prerequisite information
- Students who are required to take Foundation (UTP Stage I) Math cannot register in International Year One (UTP Stage II) Math or Science courses and may wish to consult a Student Success Advisor after registering for courses. See the prerequisites requirements.
- You may not be able to view all courses on your Student Portal Enrolment screen or may see some courses blocked. This may be due to one of the following reasons:
- You did not complete Grade 12 Math, Chemistry, Physics, or Biology.
- You scored less than 60% (or equivalent) in grade 12 Math, Chemistry, Physics, or Biology.
- The course you want to register for requires you to complete a prerequisite course with ICM.
- For STAT 1150, please note that students are required to have a 70% in Pre-Calculus mathematics 40S and must also have completed one term at ICM.

Effective 2027-2028
For UM Admission, students must complete the following:
- A 3-credit-hour course deemed to have fulfilled the University of Manitoba mathematics requirement; and
- 6 credit hours of courses at the 1000-level or higher which are deemed to be Faculty of Science courses at the University of Manitoba with grades of C or better.
International Year One (UTP Stage II): Science (Computer Science) – Mixed Entry
Students in a Mixed Entry program will find this indicated on their Letter of Offer under the Notes section, “Student is now eligible for our Mixed entry level based on the provided English test result. To successfully enrol in the Mixed Program, you must select AES100.”

- COMP 1000 Introductory Programming: Think Like a Computer
- One recommended or required International Year One (UTP Stage II) courses from the following list below:
