Understand and accept your offer

Congratulations on receiving your Letter of Offer to ICM, your pathway to the University of Manitoba. Follow these steps that will have you ready to start your education:

Accepting your offer

1. Review your Letter of Offer

Your Letter of Offer is important as it contains everything you need to know about your future studies! Please read it carefully and contact our team if you have any questions.

Your Letter of Offer outlines:

  • The ICM and University of Manitoba programs that have been offered to you
  • The program start date
  • Estimated tuition fees
  • Any condition(s) of the offer such as requiring official or certified copies of academic transcripts, or evidence of English proficiency (e.g., IELTS results). All conditions must be cleared before you can enrol in your classes
  • Your ICM Student ID number which is listed in the top left-hand corner

2. Know your ICM program

UTP Stage I bridges secondary school and undergraduate studies. It’s designed to prepare you for university-level studies. If you do not see Stage I on your offer letter, it means you qualify for Stage II.

UTP Stage II is equivalent to the first year of your University of Manitoba (UM) degree. When you complete this program, satisfy university admission requirements and deadlines, and achieve the specified minimum CGPA, you can progress to transfer to the second year of your degree at the University of Manitoba. Admission to some degree programs will be on a competitive basis and subject to quotas.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a UTPI Math condition, what does this mean?

If you did not take year 12 high school math (or an equivalent) or scored less than 60% in year 12 math (or an equivalent), you will need to take the UTP Stage I Math course(s), which is pre-university math. Students who are required to take UTP Stage I math will be asked to write an online Math Placement Test one to two months before their intake begins.

I have applied for UTP Stage II: Engineering but have received a Letter of Offer for UTP Stage II: Science. Why?

There are a few reasons why you have received this.

  • You are starting your studies in UTP Stage I
  • You have not yet submitted your results from your final year of high school (or equivalent)
  • Your final high school (or equivalent) results do not meet the academic requirements to enter UTP Stage II: Engineering, which requires an average of 75% in year 12 Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics, with no other grades lower than 70% or equivalent

If you want to change into UTP Stage II: Engineering at ICM, you must first achieve the following in UTP Stage II: Science:

  • Earn a minimum grade of B in the following three courses* in UTP Stage II: Science:
    • MATH 1500 - Introduction to Calculus
    • CHEM 1100 - Introductory Chemistry 1: Atomic and Molecular Structure and Energetics
    • PHYS 1050 - Physics 1: Mechanics
  • Maintain an average Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (out of 4.5), and
  • Have a maximum of nine (9) credit hours of F or D grades at ICM

*If you don’t meet the prerequisite requirements for these courses, you may complete the UTP I equivalent course(s) to meet the prerequisite.

3. Prepare for your second-year UM program

Once you have successful completed UTP Stage II in your chosen program and you have satisfied university admission requirements, including achieving the specified minimum CGPA, you’ll be eligible to apply to progress to transfer to the second year of your degree at the University of Manitoba. This includes successfully completing 30 credit hours of advanced standing, meeting the required CGPA and satisfying the relevant entry requirements as identified for each program. Admission to some degree programs will be on a competitive basis and subject to quotas.

It is important that you understand the requirements needed to allow you to progress to the second year of your desired program. If you do not meet the course or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) requirements or deadlines for your desired faculty, you may have the opportunity to apply to a different program or faculty that does not have as competitive of entrance requirements.

ICM’s Student Success Advisors are here to support you as you prepare to transition to your second year. Learn more.

4. Know your program start dates

There are three intake or start dates each year: January, May and September. Each intake has a mandatory student Orientation event that incoming students are required to attend. Plan to secure your study permit approval well in advance so you can arrive on time!

5. Pay tuition fees

All fees and charges as stated in the Letter of Offer must be paid in full to be recognized as having accepted the offer to study at ICM. These charges include partial program fees (usually half a year’s fees), student services fee and English Language program fees (if applicable).

Payments should be made in Canadian dollars to the International College of Manitoba. More information on tuition fees, payment options, and other fees and charges can be found on our website.

*Note that tuition fees do not include prerequisite courses, labs, accommodation, and other required student fees.

6. Clear outstanding conditions (if applicable)

Prior to enroling in ICM, all outstanding conditions must be cleared which may include:

  • Certified-original copies of academic transcripts,
  • Graduation certificate or diploma,
  • Acceptance of Offer form,
  • English proficiency test results, and
  • Other conditions that may be applicable to your specific application.

You can contact info@icmanitoba.ca for more information on the conditions outlined in your Letter of Offer.

7. English language programming (if required)

If you need to improve your English to meet the minimum English language requirements to attend your desired program at ICM, you may be able to enrol in the University of Manitoba’s (UM) Intensive Academic English language program.

8. Accept your offer

The Acceptance of Offer Form is included with your Letter of Offer. You will need to complete this form, including your signature, and return it electronically to ICM with your payment.

Once your payment has been received, your place at ICM will be confirmed in writing. You will receive your Letter of Acceptance and payment receipt electronically.

9. Apply for your visa/study permit

Once you’ve received your Letter of Acceptance to ICM, you should apply for your study permit as soon as possible to be sure you arrive at ICM in time to attend Orientation!

Do not delay your visa application, as processing times can take weeks or even several months. Check the average processing time for your country.

You can get more information on applying for a study permit or meet with your educational agent (if applicable). Note: students under the age of 18 are considered minors in Manitoba and typically require a custodian/guardian.

10. Register for classes online

Once your place has been confirmed and your conditions removed, you will be able to register for classes online! You will receive an email from ICM with information about how to register and you can select your classes online a month before your Orientation date. See more useful tips about enrolment.

11. Attend Orientation and start your studies at ICM
