Apply early to secure your spot in your top choice!
As an ICM student, you have access to on-campus student residences, homestay, or off-campus private rentals. We recommend new arrivals consider on-campus student residences or homestay, as these options are safe and secure to book from your home country. Students are responsible for booking their own accommodations, so it’s important to consider your accommodation options well in advance - as soon as you receive your Letter of Offer.
There are a number of options available depending on what you’re looking for as well as your budget, but remember to apply early! Popular options often have wait lists starting 4-6 months in advance.

On-Campus Dining: UM Dining Services
UM Dining Services offers a large selection of food and beverage items at various locations across the Fort Garry campus. All students in UM Student Residence must have a meal plan as cooking in residence rooms is not allowed for safety reasons.
Whether you are a vegetarian or vegan, have a dairy or gluten intolerance, or simply enjoy Halal meats, the UM Dining Services has something for everyone to enjoy. Check out the Meal Membership options here.
Off-campus: Homestay
For many students, the opportunity to stay with a Canadian family, off-campus and in the community, offers special appeal. As a homestay student, you will have the chance to be a part of a family, taking part in family activities and celebrating special occasions.
All families are within commuting distance from ICM. Homestay includes three meals per day, a bedroom, internet access. Homestay is also a great option for those students who may not be 18 years old when arriving in Winnipeg and will require a custodian.
There are two different homestay providers that ICM works with. Please contact your homestay provider of choice directly for more information.
Polar Trails homestay program - Also offers custodianship services
The Canada Homestay Network - Also offers custodianship services
Off-campus: Private rentals
A wide range of off-campus accommodation is available in Winnipeg, including private rentals and shared accommodation. This includes the ARC located near campus, which offers fully furnished private rentals for students and recent graduates.
While we often recommend that new arrivals consider on-campus student residences or homestay, students who are considering off-campus private rentals can visit the University of Manitoba's Off-Campus Housing website for information about renting in Winnipeg. The University of Manitoba’s International Centre also has important information about renters’ rights and responsibilities.
If you are considering a private rental, it's very important to visit the rental in person, meet the building manager, and verify that the rental is legitimate and as advertised before signing any contracts or paying any money. You should also fully read and understand the rental contract before you sign it.
